Last week we brought you part 1 of this session (see link below) but due to a busy schedule it's taken me a while to produce part 2. Part 2 is from the same session.
In part 1 we showed you how we begin to help reactive dogs change their emotional response to stimuli they find stressful, which triggers a reaction. This part of the session focuses on when the handler takes over.
It's important to us that when we leave, the handler is confident that they can continue the work and help their dog until we return. You will notice that during this video, the dog reacts more then what it did with me. This does not worry me, the reason this happens is because the dog and handler have a history. That history is normally fuelled with worry and frustration, so it does take the handler longer to produce the same results then a trainer.
Give the fact when I first asked the handler to walk his dog past one of mine, before we began training (just so I could see them both in action) his dog lost the plot and when full hog, lunging, barking and on his back legs, this is considerable improvement on the handlers part and that's what I wanted to see.
We are back with this guy on Saturday to further both of their training so stay tuned for that.
Before you watch this (if you are not familiar with this dog) watch the link below from part 1.
