আমরা, মানব জাতি দুনিয়াতে এমন একটা ধারণা নিয়ে বেঁচে থাকি যে, এই দুনিয়াটা আমাদের। এটাই আমাদের থাকার স্থান, ঘরবাড়ি, এখানে আছি, থাকব, যেন এটা আমাদের চির আবাসস্থল। কিন্তু যে বাস্তবতা আমরা জানি না, বা জানতে চাই না, যে, আমরা এক ট্রেনে ভ্রমণ করছি, যে ট্রেনটা একটা একটা করে স্টেশন পার হয়ে সর্বশেষ একটি গন্তব্যের দিকে যাচ্ছে। আর এই দুনিয়ার জীবন হচ্ছে এমনই একটা স্টেশনের শুরু মাত্র। কিন্তু আমরা এই দুনিয়ার নই, বা দুনিয়াটাও আমাদের নয়। আমাদের হাতে যেন একটি টিকেট আছে, যেটার তিনটি অংশ আছে। আমরা মায়ের গর্ভে নয় মাস অবস্থান করি, তারপর সে টিকেটের একটা অংশ ছিড়ে ফেলা হয়। এরপর আমরা এই দুনিয়ার জীবনে প্রবেশ করি, আমাদের নতুন স্টেশন থেকে যাত্রা শুরু হয়, আর এরপর যখন আমরা মারা যাই, তখন টিকেটের দ্বিতীয় অংশটুকু ছিড়ে ফেলা হয়। আমাদের হাতে থেকে যায় টিকেটের শেষ অংশটুকু, জান্নাত বা জাহান্নামের প্রবেশ করার সাথে শেষ অংশটুকুও ছিড়ে ফেলা হবে, আর সেটাই হবে আমাদের চূড়ান্ত গন্তব্যস্থল।
আমরা, এই দুনিয়ার চিরস্থায়ী বাসিন্দা না, এই দুনিয়া কেবলই আমাদের দীর্ঘ সফরের একটা ক্ষুদ্র অংশ মাত্র, তাই রাসূলুল্লাহ (সা.) বলেছেন, ‘এই দুনিয়াতে এমনভাবে বেঁচে থাক যেন তুমি একজন মুসাফির।’ তিনি দুনিয়ার জীবনের বাস্তবতাকে তুলে ধরেছেন এই বলে, ‘ধরো, একটা মানুষ মরুভূমির পথ ধরে যাচ্ছে, এবং সে দেখল একটা গাছ, সেটা দেখে তার ছায়ার নিচে বসল, বিশ্রাম নিল এবং আবার তার অসম্পূর্ণ সফর সম্পন্ন করতে পুনরায় চলতে শুরু করল — এটাই হল দুনিয়া।’
আমরা গাছটার নিচে অল্প কয়টা মূহূর্ত ব্যয় করছি এবং এরপর আবার আগের যাত্রা। সময়ের এই পথ চলা, আমাদের জীবনের, আমাদের অস্তিত্বের ক্ষয় ছাড়া আর কিছুই নয়। প্রতিটি সেকেন্ডের সাথে সাথে আমাদের অস্তিত্ব ক্রমেই নিঃশেষ হচ্ছে। এই বাস্তবতা আমাদেরকে বিশ্বাস করতে হবে, যে, আমরা এখানকার কেউ নেই, আর তাই আমাদের প্রস্তুত হতে হবে মৃত্যুর জন্য।
